Adult Sewing Classes

Every New Orleans adult needs to have some level of sewing skills!!
The kids have such an amazing time in ricRACK classes, that parents and grown ups were asking…”what about classes for us??!!””

HERE YA GO!!

We’re offering sewing classes with projects that will to expand your costume closet, and help you with basic construction techniques.
AS with our kids classes, ALL fabrics, notions, and machines are included.

Cancellation and Refund Policy 

For Adults and Kids Sewing Classes, Camps, and Workshops

Please call if you’re going to be late, we usually try to start together as a group. 

Please double check your calendars before signing up for our sewing classes!

Our teachers and staff work hard to provide as much availability and coordinate class times that works for everyone.

 

If you have to cancel a class, here is ricRACK’s following policies

If you cancel prior to 24 hours: Full Refund 

If you cancel within 24 hours: 60% refund 

No-Shows: No Refunds

 

Class Make up Policy 

If you miss a class, we will try our best to find a seat in a current or following sewing class. 

It is not our responsibility to secure a seat, we will do every attempt to help you finish your project.

Learn how to identify, fix, and alter LACE.  What is vintage lace, knitted lace, Alencon, or Chantilly lace?  

Learn valuable techniques such as adding lace to hems and necklines, and sewing lace at seams.

This 2 day workshop will show you a variety of techniques used to work with lace, as well as valuable repair and restoration skills.

Your teacher will be Karen Clark from the New Orleans Greek Orthodox community, creator of veils from 5-25 feet, trained at New Orleans’ historic bridal shop Balthazars, and expert in the world of textile restoration.

2 Saturdays Sat Oct 21, 9a-noon, and Sat Oct 28 9a-noon

All materials provided.

Professional costume designer Julie Winn and seamstress/tailor Monika Grist-Weiner are hanging in the studio to help you discern, solve, or sew up your construction problem.  This is not a structured class, and you must know sewing machine basics.  

You must bring all materials, however, all tools and machines are available for use.

Beginner sewing projects using scrap fabrics....bring your scraps or use ours!

In this ScrapHeap edition with Meredith, we'll be making Beginner Baby Quilt Top!  

 

Beginner Baby Quilt Top 

Skill Level: Intermediate 

Price: $50

Dates: Oct 11th-12th

Time: 12:30-4

Description: Learn how to make a quilt top with all the heap of fun fabrics that we have in the shop. Learn how to cut pieces, chain piece them, and make squares to construct a bigger quilt. This technique can be used to make decorative pillows and wall hangings, and baby to full size quilts. Make presents for your friends and yourself!

Skills you will learn: using a rotary cutter, sewing consistent quarter inch seams, piecing together a square.

Learn the protocol to working in the Costume Department from desigining to interning. Break down scripts and budgets. Work with stunts, blood, and special effects. Industry professionals drop in as guest speakers.
